Neben der Entscheidung der Expertenjury über die Sieger in insgesamt 17 Kategorien sowie den „best of gamescom award“, wurde auch der Publikumspreis – der Most Wanted Consumer Award– bekannt gegeben. Erstmals zeichnete man auch das beste Indie-Spiel aus. Insgesamt 174 Einreichungen gingen beim Awardbüro ein, das in diesem Jahr erstmals von der Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur geleitet wurde.

Als Abräumer des Abends entpuppte sich ganz klar „Star Wars Battlefront“. In insgesamt drei Kategorien wurde der Titel von Electronic Arts ausgezeichnet: Best Playstation, Best PC und Best Online Multiplayer. Auch der „best of gamescom award“ ging an „Star Wars Battlefront“. Zudem stand Electronic Arts auch in der Gunst des Publikums ganz oben und sicherte sich mit „Star Wars Battlefront“ den „Most Wanted Consumer Award“.
